Associate Editor for Endocrine Surgery
We are pleased to announce that Rebecca S. Sippel, MD, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Endocrine Surgery section of the Journal of Surgical Research. Dr. Sippel is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Endocrine Surgery, and Director of the Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She has active NIH R01 funding for her research on papillary thyroid cancer. Dr. Sippel currently serves as President of the Association for Academic Surgery and Secretary of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. She has served as a member of the JSR Editorial Board since 2012.
Associate Editor for Surgical Education and Career Development
We are pleased to announce that Roy Phitayakorn, MD, MHPE (Med), has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Surgical Education and Career Development section of the Journal of Surgical Research. Dr. Phitayakorn is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Visiting Surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His practice focuses on general and endocrine surgery, and he has an extensive track record of leadership in surgical education, including being named the first Director for the Office of Surgical Education Research at MGH and being selected as the Senior Education Research and Development Consultant for the New England Journal of Medicine Group. Dr. Phitayakorn has served as the Association for Academic Surgery’s Representative to the Association for Surgical Education, and he has been a member of the JSR Editorial Board since 2014.
Drs. Sippel and Phitayakorn will be taking over the Endocrine Surgery section and Education and Career Development section, respectively, from Dr. Julie Ann Sosa, who has served as Associate Editor for both sections since 2013. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Sosa for her invaluable contributions to JSR, and we sincerely wish her every success in her new role as Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Surgery.
Associate Editor for Vascular Surgery
We are pleased to announce that Dawn M. Coleman, MD, has been selected to serve as the new Associate Editor for the Vascular Surgery section of the Journal of Surgical Research. Dr. Coleman is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Program Director of the Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency and Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Her translational research program focuses on aortic coarctation and renal vasculopathies, including pediatric renovascular hypertension and renal artery aneurysms; in support of this work, she has received funding from numerous foundations and societies, including the Society of Vascular Surgery. She is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and has served as a Commissioned Officer attached to the 948th Forward Surgical Team since 2003. Dr. Coleman is currently serving as co-chair of the Association for Academic Surgery Education Committee.
Dr. Coleman will be taking over the Vascular Surgery section from Dr. Alan Dardik, who has served as Associate Editor for the section since 2013. We are truly indebted to Dr. Dardik for his dedicated service to JSR, and we sincerely wish him every success in his new role as the Basic Science Section Editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
