From the AAS Ethics Committee’s 2021 Artwork and Essay Contest, five artists donated their work to our Online Auction, raising funds for the Henri Ford Junior Faculty Research Award. This week we showcase the artists and their work.
About the Art: This painting illustrates the many emotions patient’s experience when they have COVID. A patient with a very prominent worried expression surrounded by words emphasizing the patient’s feelings while they have COVID is the centerpiece of the image. Additionally, the hands and symbols of hope in the periphery illustrate people’s desire to support one another through illness.
About the Artist: Pranali Kamat is a 4th year medical student at McGovern Medical School at UT Health Science Center at Houston applying to general surgery residency. She went to undergrad at UT Dallas where she majored in Neuroscience and minored in Performing Arts. Aside from her passion for medicine, she enjoys acrylic canvas painting, acting and improvisation, running, and exploring Houston with family and friends.
