The 87th Annual Scientific Congress of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons will be held in Sydney from Monday 7 May 2018 through Friday 11 May 2018. It provides an excellent excuse to make the journey to Australia.
This is a particularly important Annual Scientific Congress as it will be held in conjunction with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and will also be associated with the American College of Surgeons who are providing a large number of delegates. The theme of the Congress is “reflecting on what really matters.” As healthcare becomes ever more complicated, it is important to keep sight of the things that really matter and what needs to be measured, remembered and utilised. We have a very varied and stimulating Congress planned with a large number of invited international experts. The Section Conveners are constructing a very informative sub-specialty program, and there will be a number of combined sessions with the College of Anaesthetists as well as significant input from our American colleagues. Whatever their interest, we are confident that attendees will find many parts of the program informative and stimulating.
It has been more than ten years since the ASC has been held in Sydney, Australia’s oldest, largest and most iconic city. The Congress will be held at the new Sydney Convention Centre in Darling Harbour, a state of the art facility, located right on the harbour with its distinctive views, and many of the hotels associated with the ASC are within easy walking distance of the venue. Sydney has a plethora of outstanding dining opportunities as well as many cultural experiences and there is “something for everyone”. We will be offering a number of enjoyable social tours during the week of the congress and there will also be a selection of post congress tours and trips available.
Sydney’s weather in May tends to be dry and has a pleasant temperature, usually with an average temperature of approximately 16 degrees Celsius (61 F). It is an excellent time of the year to walk around the city and see the sights.
We look forward to welcoming attendees from the USA.
