Position Overview
Position description
Department of Surgery, UCLA West Valley Medical CenterThe Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for the position of Chief of General Surgery at UCLA West Valley Medical Center. This is a faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level within the University of California clinical health sciences professor series.
The Chief of General Surgery will lead a team of 3-4 surgeons, forming part of UCLA’s Division of General Surgery at UCLA West Valley Medical Center. This will be a newly formed surgery service at this site and be part of a Division renowned for its exceptional patient care, groundbreaking research, and advancements across subspecialties including colon and rectal surgery, trauma and critical care, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, endocrine surgery.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
o Establish and maintain policies, quality standards, and regulations for the surgeons at West Valley Medical Center.
o Lead the growth of the general surgery practice at the UCLA West Valley Medical Center
o Represent the program in key areas including patient care, financial performance, , faculty development, and educational programs.
Clinical Duties:
o Provide comprehensive surgical care in general surgery, including inpatient and outpatient services, operating room procedures, and panel call coverage, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.
Academic & Educational Contributions:
o Teach and supervise trainees.
o Foster continuing education and support professional development for faculty.
o Engage in scholarly activities including clinical, translational, and/or social science research.
Administrative Oversight:
o Address complaints and issues.
o Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and institutional growth.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications
The candidate must possess an M.D., be ABTS board certified and must be eligible for a California medical license.
