General Surgery
I am a General Surgery resident who is currently training in a community-based consortium program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. My interest in Global Medicine is deeply intertwined with my desire to pursue medicine, as well as my past and current education. I dove into global work in college when I served a community in Tanzania and participated in health clinics in Honduras via Global Bridges by triaging patients and helping physicians do clerical tasks during my Masters. My global experiences have opened my eyes to learning about sustainability in global medicine, and have pushed me to pursue additional leadership and educational experiences in medical school and residency. As a Masters student and medical student, my love for teaching drove me to train to become a tutor. Thereafter, I became a resident in a community-based program that allows me to serve a breadth of patients with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and work in multiple hospitals with a varying level of resources. This experience has given me the opportunity to learn how to troubleshoot and problem solve in several settings. My experiences, as well as my previous training as a tutor, has helped me develop a deeper understanding of how to elevate others and create a safe space for educational growth. I believe these traits will help me be a passionate committee leader that will serve the AAS community with sincerity.
