I am a surgical oncology fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center and a graduate of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) General Surgery Residency program. During my residency dedicated research time, I completed an American College of Surgeon’s accredited Surgical Education and Simulation Research Fellowship at MGH as well as the Association for Surgical Education’s Surgical Education Research Fellowship (SERF) program. My research focus encompassed both qualitative and quantitative studies ranging from needs assessments to technical skill evaluations. I served on GME committees and mentored several junior residents and medical students on research projects and participated in many teaching opportunities. As a clinical resident, I won teaching awards as a PGY-3, 4, and 5 and ultimately won the Resident Mentorship Award as a Chief Resident. I also participated on the American Board of Surgery Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) subcommittees for both general surgery and surgical oncology EPAs.
During surgical residency I enjoyed presenting at the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS)’s annual conference and participating in the organization as a Candidate Member. I am excited to transition to an Active Member role within AAS. I hope to join the Education Committee in order to contribute to annual meeting planning and further develop the Fundamentals of Surgical Education Research Course for medical students and surgery residents. Mentoring medical students and residents in surgical education and research projects brings me joy, and I am eager for the opportunity to further expand my teaching and mentorship through the AAS Education Committee.
