I am seeking your support for my nomination to the AAS Global Affair Committee, the Education Committee, and the Clinical and Health Services Research Committee. I am a pediatric surgeon at Texas Children’s Hospital and part of the global surgery faculty at Baylor College of Medicine. My clinical focus is pediatric surgical oncology, and my research focus is surgical disparities in care amongst patients with solid tumors. My long-term goal is to mesh my interests of pediatric surgical oncology, health disparities, and global surgery into one meaningful and impactful career.
I had the opportunity to serve on the AAS Global Affairs Committee as a resident in 2014, and that experience positively impacted my developing interest in global academic surgery and my desire to be more deeply involved in the AAS. During my pediatric surgery fellowship, I held a position on the ACS RAS Global Surgery Committee as the social media chair. Now that I am in my early career years, I am looking for opportunities to once again join like-minded individuals committed to advancing academic surgery and surgical care worldwide. I work hard and would actively contribute to my selected committee in any way possible. Â The AAS has provided a lot of career firsts for me, including my first presentation on a national stage and my first committee involvement in a national surgical organization. I would love to give back to this wonderful organization by serving as a member in one of the above committees.
