I have a longstanding commitment to the AAS as a scientific presenter, participant in Fall Courses, and award recipient (Student Research Award 2014) and finalist (Resident Research Award 2018). Moreover, I bring a unique perspective as an academic surgeon based in a community setting. This hybrid community-academic model is increasingly common among young academic surgeons. I benefited from excellent mentorship as I established our community colorectal service line, submitted a K08 application, and had my second child over my first year as tenure track faculty. My goal is to provide opportunities through shared experiences and mentorship for the next generation.
