About 10 years after presenting at my first ASC meeting as a trainee, I recently had the privilege of mentoring a trainee through their first research presentation. The AAS has been instrumental to developing my academic career. I am indebted to the knowledge and skills gained during the meetings and am especially grateful for the invaluable friendships and mentorship. I previously served as a candidate member in the Education and Membership committees, and hope to build on those experiences as a part of the Membership committee, promoting the organization’s inclusivity, value, and highest standards among both practicing and aspiring academic surgeons.
